1. Who we are

DeepLookup is a Chrome extension that lets you highlight text on any webpage and ask context-aware questions. We take your privacy seriously and collect only the minimal data required to provide the service.

2. Data we collect & why

Selected text – the text you highlight and actively submit. Needed to generate an answer for you.
Your question – supplied in the popup. Needed for the same reason.
Basic usage metrics (timestamp, request size, response time) – used internally to monitor performance, detect abuse and improve reliability.

3. What we don’t collect

No browsing history
No cookies or trackers
No personal identifiers (name, email, IP is stored only in transient server logs & rotated within 7 days)

4. How processing works

When you click Ask DeepLookup we send your selected text and question over HTTPS to our secure proxy (*.vercel.app). The proxy forwards it to DeepSeek LLM to generate an answer, then returns the result to your browser. All traffic is encrypted end-to-end.

5. Data retention

Selected text & questions – stored in volatile memory only long enough to process the request (≤ 30 seconds).
Minimal logs – kept for 7 days for abuse detection, then automatically purged.

6. Third-party services

We rely on:

Vercel – serverless hosting for the proxy
DeepSeek AI API – language model that generates the answer

Both providers comply with industry-standard security practices and GDPR.

7. Your choices

Do not click the ask-button if you don’t want the selected text sent.
Uninstall the extension at any time via chrome://extensions.

8. Security

All server communications are protected by TLS 1.2+. Access to backend logs and environment variables is limited to authorised personnel.

9. Changes

We may update this policy to reflect changes in regulations or features. We’ll bump the “Last updated” date and highlight major changes inside the extension’s release notes.
